Excellent Season to Experience Annapurna Trekking
Annapurna is one of the most spectacular trekking destinations in Nepal. It is best to commence a trek during autumn, spring, and winter. The routes that will be taken during the treks depend on the trekking company that trekkers have signed up with. Typically, the trek starts at the lakeside town of Pohkara then towards the north region of the Annapurna Massif. The trek highlights the famous mountains located in Annapurna.
There are several routes around the Annapurna region but the famous is the Annapurna Base Camp trek. This is considered one of the most beautiful treks in the Himalayan region. The trek combines easy walking with grandiose scenery along with a mixture of rich cultures in Nepal.
Trails along this trek pass lowland villages and fascinating rice terraces towards the Annapurna Himal. As trekkers ascend uphill, a stunning view of the Annapurna South and Hiunchuli emerge right behind the foothills. After passing through cultivated fields, pastures, deep forests of bamboo, oak, and rhododendron, trekkers will reach the Annapurna Sanctuary.
The best feature of this trek is the Annapurna Sanctuary where travelers will most likely to see beautiful and extraordinary 360 degree views of the Annapurna mountain ranges. The Annapurna massif consists of six major mountain peaks over 7,200 meters including Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna, and Annapurna South. Annapurna I is considered as the tenth highest peak in the world.
The Annapurna Sanctuary is the oval-shaped plateau that sits at an altitude of over 4,000 meters. It is considered as a glacial basin that lies forty kilometers north of Pokhara which is Nepal’s second city. The number of trekkers who’ve reached the Annapurna Sanctuary has increased for years. The sanctuary is now protected by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project wherein restrictions are set for some outsiders, gathering of firewood, and domestic animal grazing.
The trek towards the Annapurna region is considered moderately strenuous where trekkers are required to be in good physical condition. However, certain arrangements can be made depending on the trekking guide or company you’re with. The trek may take more than fifteen days depending on the pace of the group. Those who have experience in trekking and have a sense of adventure will definitely enjoy the Annapurna trek.
The best season to trek in the Annapurna region is during autumn where the weather is excellent for outdoor activities in the Himalayas including trekking, hiking, and mountain climbing. Autumn is usually from September to November. It is also during this season that trekkers are likely to experience exhilarating views of the Annapurna massifs.
Annapurna trekking is also recommended during spring and winter. Spring is from March to May and winter from December to February. In spring, trekkers can view beautiful varieties of rhododendrons in the forest and slopes towards the Annapurna Sanctuary. During winter, trekking in lower elevations is best to enjoy a worthwhile trekking adventure in the Annapurna region.
